Chennai, 27th November 2024 — Mahindra & Mahindra has now two new, electric SUVs BE 6e and XEV 9e to their electric vehicle portfolio. Thus, the company continues to set the tone for green mobility. They have shared the development of these cars, which will act as tools to address the pressing concern of sustainable mobility solutions in India.

Both BE 6e and XEV 9e models are constructed on Mahindra’s INGLO platform, which is an innovative modular architecture developed in-house. The name “INGLO” that was announced came from India (IN) and Global (GLO), further attesting the platform’s dynamism in regards to global markets. This architecture is a technical solution for both Indian-specific and global standards of driving because it allows the wheelbase, the length, and the width to be changed. It accommodates both 60-kWh and 80-kWh battery packs, therefore a variation of models can be created.

The BE 6e boasts an innovative design and the latest technological devices. The external design has impressive wheels that are clad in aerodynamic tires and large character lines, which give the vehicle a strong appearance. Behind the wheel of the BE 6e, you find an exquisitely crafted aesthetic that is driver-centered and is distinguishable by a hand-motion induced two-spoke steering wheel containing a backlit logo and a dual-screen configuration comprising a digital instrument panel, and an infotainment screen.

The equipment list here is really impressive: there are ventilated seats, wireless charging, air purifiers, air quality indicators, a sixteen-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos, a facial recognition system, cooled console storage, and an “infinity roof” with illumination. BE 6e is powered by an electric motor that is mounted at the rear and gives a power range of over 500 km per charge. It features semi-active suspension to ensure a gentle ride and a new steering system that promises better handling. Moreover, the BE 6e has an initial cost of Rs. 18.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

The XEV 9e, which is a premium offering, is based on the INGLO platform along with the BE 6e. This model flaunts the most luxurious interior design, with exquisite leather materials accompanied by a wide touchscreen that barely inches to the driver’s side, but for the front passenger, it also serves as a display. The vehicle is also able to be used with a single charge for over 300 km, and the prices start at around &in. 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

Market Strategy and Future Plans

Mahindra has launched two compact SUVs, the BE 6e and XEV 9e, to support its dominance in the increasingly fast-growing compact SUV sector in India that other vehicles like Hyundai’s Creta and Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Hyryder hold the leadership in.

The production run of these electric SUVs is designated to kick off in February 2025 and the initial manufacturing capacity will be 90,000 units per year to be scaled up to 200,000 units by March 2026. Mahindra wants electric vehicles to make up at least 20% of SUV sales by 2027 and promises to launch five more electric vehicles by 2030. The automaker has over $500 million set aside for these EVs, which is just a fraction of the $2 billion they will be investing by 2027.
